7 Days Kilimanjaro Climbing Rongai Route

The Rongai route in Kilimanjaro is located northern side of Kilimanjaro near Kenya border. With low traffic in remote area is favorable route to climb Mt Kilimanjaro from northern side.

  • Day 1

    Rongai Gate (1,800m) to Simba Camp (2,600m)

    After early breakfast in Moshi/Arusha drive to Marangu gate for registration formalities, then proceed to Rongai Gate (1,800m). Begin climbing through forest inhabited with wildlife species. From Rongai gate to Simba Camp is almost 3 to 4 hours walking.

  • Day 2

    Simba Camp (2,600m) to Second Cave camp (3,450m)

    After morning breakfast begin walking to reach Second Cave, (3,450m) with approximately 3 to 4 hours walking.

  • Day 3

    Second Cave (3,450m) to Kikelewa Camp (3,600m)

    Morning proceed with trekking through moorland zone to reach Kikelewa Camp (3679m). Arrival for dinner and overnight at Kikelewa camp.

  • Day 4

    Kikelewa Camp (3,600m) to Mawenzi Turn Camp (4,330m)

    After morning breakfast begin climbing steep side to reach Mawenzi Tarn (4330m). Dinner and overnight at Mawenzi Tarn Camp.

  • Day 5

    Mawenzi Turn hut (4,330m) to School Hut (4,750m)

    After breakfast begin crossing the alpine desert to reach school Hut (4700m). At kibo hut get enough relaxation when waiting for midnight summit to Uhuru peak 5895m.

  • Day 6

    School Hut (4,750m) to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) then Horombo Hut

    At midnight depart to reach Uhuru peak. Taking almost five to six hours to reach the summit. After reaching the Uhuru peak take pictures before descending to Kibo hut for short break. After short break at Kibo hut proceed down to Horombo hut for dinner and overnight.

  • Day 7

    Horombo Hut (3,720m) to Marangu Gate (1,800m)

    Descend to Marangu Gate passing Mandara hut. At Marangu gate meet and transfer to the hotel in Arusha/Moshi for relaxation.
